The college started functioning as Government Intermediate College in 1951 with Arts (Social Sciences) Classes only. Science classes were introduced in 1954. Graduate level Social Science classes were introduced in 1955 and in 1967 science classes were also started. The College then progressed rapidly. In 1973, Classes at postgraduate level in the subjects of English, Botany, Chemistry and Economics were started. Postgraduate classes of Political Science and Mathematics were added in 1980.
The latest addition i.e., 2010-11, is that of BS 4-Years degree programs. The college administration has, with active support of the Director of Higher Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the P.M.U, initiated BS 4-years Degree Programs in the subjects of Zoology, Physics, computer Science, Electronics, Economics, Political Science, Chemistry, HPE, English, Botany, Mathematics, Pak-Studies, Urdu and Pashto. The college Administration intends to start some more BS 4-Years Programs in the near future in order to pave the way for this institute to become a Degree Awarding Institute
